A Simple Yearly Routine for Every Door
With several doors, small problems are easy to miss because you don’t use every door every day. Once a year, take ten minutes per door:
- Watch it run. It should move smoothly and quietly, without jerking or scraping.
- Test the balance. Pull the opener’s release cord with the door closed and lift it halfway by hand. It should stay put. If it drops or shoots up, the springs need adjusting or replacing.
- Test the safety reverse. Lay a roll of paper towels where the door closes. The door should reverse when it touches it.
- Lubricate. A garage door lubricant on the springs, hinges and steel rollers. Skip the tracks themselves.
If any door fails one of these, give us a call before it turns into a bigger repair. The door you use least is often the one with the oldest springs.
