Most Opener Problems Aren't the Motor

When a garage door opener acts up, people usually assume the motor is dead and start pricing new ones. In Pineville, a lot of the opener calls we get turn out to be something smaller.

  • The door reverses before it closes. That’s almost always the safety sensors at the bottom of the tracks. They get bumped, dirty or knocked out of line.
  • It hums but nothing moves. Often a worn drive gear inside the opener, or a broken spring making the door too heavy to lift.
  • The remote quit but the wall button works. A dead battery, a lockout button turned on, or a remote that lost its programming.
  • The door stops partway. The travel limits or force settings need adjusting, or the door is out of balance and fighting the opener.

We check the door first, then the opener. If the opener is fine and the problem is somewhere else, we’ll tell you.

“He was honest and didnt recommend anything unnecessary, all we needed was a simple cleaning of sensors.”

It happens

Door Off Its Track? Here's What to Do

Backing into a half-open door, closing it on a trash can, or a worn roller giving out can all pop a door off its track. When that happens the door hangs crooked, binds, or won’t move at all.

Stop using it. Unplug the opener so nobody hits the button. A door that’s off track is under spring tension and can fall or twist if it’s forced. Don’t try to hammer the track back into shape either.

We’ll set the door back in the track, straighten or replace bent track sections and rollers, and then check why it came off so it doesn’t happen again.

“I was not thinking and shut the garage door with a tall sign in the way and the door jumped the tract. We called and not 15 mins later they were out and able to fix the door for WAY less then I thought.”

Single-Car Garages and Townhomes

A lot of Pineville homes and townhomes have a single-car garage, sometimes with a bedroom or living space right above it. That changes what makes sense for your door and opener.

  • Noise matters more. If someone sleeps over the garage, a belt drive opener and nylon rollers make a big difference compared to an old chain drive with steel wheels.
  • Space is tight. Low ceilings and narrow sides limit which openers and hardware fit. We’ll measure before we recommend anything.
  • One door does all the work. If it’s your only way in and out, a spring or opener failure stops your day. Regular lubrication and a yearly look keep surprises down.

If you share walls with neighbors, we’ll keep the noise and the mess down while we work.

Fair Prices From a Company That Says No to Extra Work

Adam started Rise Up in 2016 after his mother got taken advantage of during a spring replacement. That’s why we quote the repair you actually need and nothing else. Sometimes that means a smaller bill than you expected, and we’re fine with that.

New residential torsion springs come with a 12-month warranty, and every job is covered by our satisfaction guarantee.

“Another company was going to charge me almost triple for work I didn’t need. The integrity to charge me less because that’s all I needed shows how great Rise Up is.”

Rise up was quick to respond and prompt with service. From the start Adam was kind, explained everything to me thoroughly, and was upfront about the pricing. I accidentally ran into my garage door and cracked the frame. He reinforced it in less than 30 mins and had it working like it was brand new! I am so thankful to him! They are very affordable as well and I will recommend them to all. Very happy with my service!

Adam was very responsive when I asked him to come to my home to give me an estimate. Once I decided to go with him, her was able to do the work with in a week. Repaired/finished the install on an old Genie opener that had been under for 15 year. Installed a new Liftmaster opener on the 2nd door. Replaced all the wheels on both doors. Excellent work. Reasonable prices.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Rise Up Garage Doors, and I couldn't be more satisfied with their service and the quality of the motor that was installed. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and efficient. Adam was incredibly responsive, and quick to tend to our issue. He was punctual, professional and well prepared. He assessed the issue with my garage door swiftly and provided a clear explanation of the necessary repairs. We ended up needing a new motor as our was about 20+ years old and in bad shape to where our door wasn't opening any longer. He made sure we were fully informed about the work being done and the costs involved, which were very reasonable. The new motor is wonderful, we can barely hear the door open/close with all the key updates we needed. Overall, I highly recommend Rise Up Garage Doors for anyone in need of garage door services. Their fast, efficient, and professional approach sets them apart from the rest.

FAQs

Pineville Garage Door Questions

My opener runs but the door won't move. What's wrong?

Usually one of three things: a broken spring, a stripped gear inside the opener, or the opener’s emergency release got pulled and the trolley is disconnected. If the door feels very heavy when you try it by hand, it’s almost always the spring. Don’t keep running the opener.

If the motor is healthy and it’s a sensor, remote or gear problem, repair is usually the smart move. If it’s an old unit with failing electronics, a new opener often costs less over time. We’ll quote both so you can compare.

Yes. Single-car doors, tight side clearances and garages under living space are all normal for us. If there’s a bedroom over the garage, ask about a quieter belt drive opener.

Can you fix a door that came off its track?

Yes. Stop using it first, because forcing it can bend the panels. We’ll get it back in the track and replace anything that got bent.

Yes. We’re LiftMaster Certified and repair and install myQ openers, keypads and remotes.

Yes. Plenty of calls end with a sensor wipe or a small adjustment. We’ll tell you that instead of selling you parts.
