Time for a New Garage Door Opener?
Openers rarely die all at once. First the door starts reversing for no reason. Then the remote only works from halfway down the driveway. Then one cold morning the motor hums, the light comes on, and nothing moves.
If your opener is 15 or 20 years old, it’s probably louder than it needs to be, it may not have the safety features newer models have, and parts are getting harder to find. At some point a new opener costs less than chasing repairs on an old one.

Belt Drive or Chain Drive?
This is the first question most people ask us, and the honest answer is that both work well. The difference is mostly noise.
Belt drive openers use a reinforced rubber belt instead of a metal chain. They’re much quieter, which matters a lot if there’s a bedroom, a bonus room or a home office over the garage.
Chain drive openers are the classic setup. They’re loud, but they’re simple and tough, and they’re a good fit for a detached garage or a shop where nobody is sleeping on the other side of the wall.
Horsepower matters less than people think. What matters is that the door itself is balanced. A heavy, out-of-balance door will wear out any opener, so we check the springs and balance before we hang a new one. If the springs are tired, we’ll tell you before we start.

Safety Reversing Sensors
Openers sold in the U.S. since 1993 have to include the two small sensors near the floor that stop and reverse the door if something crosses the beam. We mount them solidly and test them so a bumped sensor doesn't strand you.

Your Door Has to Be Ready for the Opener
An opener is only as good as the door it’s lifting. Before we install one, we disconnect the old opener and lift the door by hand. It should feel light and stay put about halfway up. If it slams down or shoots up, the springs need attention first.
Putting a brand new opener on a door with worn springs is like putting new tires on a car with a bent axle. It’ll work for a while, then the gears strip and you’re paying for the same problem twice.
We’ll also look at the rollers, hinges and tracks. If anything is worn, we’ll show you and give you the price to fix it. You decide what gets done.
- Battery backup: some newer openers can keep running for a while during a power outage. If that matters to you, ask us which models offer it.
- Wall control and lighting: newer wall buttons are lighted and many have a lock switch that blocks all remotes when you’re away.
- Remotes and keypads: we program the remotes and keypad that come with your opener and test each one with you.

We test the springs and balance by hand, look at the rollers and tracks, and tell you if anything needs work before the opener goes up.
Install and Program
We take down the old unit, hang the new opener and rail, mount the wall button and sensors, and program your remotes, keypad and app.

We set how far the door travels and how hard it pushes, test the safety reverse, and walk you through how everything works.

How do I know it's time for a new opener?
If it’s 15 or more years old, needs repairs more than once a year, is very loud, or doesn’t have safety sensors, it’s usually time. If it’s newer and the problem is one part, a repair is often the better spend.
