The Garage Door Problems We Fix Most in Matthews
Plenty of homes in Matthews have doors and openers that have been running for 15 years or more. Around then, the same handful of parts start to give out:
- Worn rollers and dry hinges that make the door loud and shaky.
- Opener trouble, from a stripped drive gear to safety sensors knocked out of line.
- Tired springs that make the opener strain, followed eventually by a spring that snaps.
- Older openers that still work but are loud, slow, and missing modern features.
Often it’s more than one at a time. One customer had us finish an old Genie opener that had been running for about 15 years, install a new LiftMaster on the second door, and replace the rollers on both doors in the same visit:
“Repaired/finished the install on an old Genie opener that had been under for 15 year. Installed a new Liftmaster opener on the 2nd door. Replaced all the wheels on both doors. Excellent work. Reasonable prices.”

Why Is My Garage Door So Loud?
A noisy door is one of the most common reasons Matthews homeowners call us. The noise usually tells you what’s wrong:
- Grinding or squealing: dry rollers and hinges, or rollers with worn-out bearings.
- Rattling and banging: loose hinges and track bolts, or a chain drive opener with a slack chain.
- Popping or scraping: a track that’s bent or out of line, or a roller rubbing the track.
- A strained, laboring opener: springs that have lost tension, so the opener is doing the lifting.
Most of these are quick fixes: tighten the hardware, replace the rollers, lubricate, and balance the door. If you want to dig in first, read our guide on why garage doors get noisy.
“My door would sometimes open after i tried to close it. Rise Up quickly adjusted the sensors and replaced the rollers on the door to smooth it out and cut down on noise.”

Chain Drive, Belt Drive, and Smart Openers
If your opener is near the end of its life, here’s the short version of your choices:
- Chain drive: strong and dependable, but the loudest. Fine for a detached garage.
- Belt drive: much quieter. A good pick if there’s a bedroom or living space above or next to the garage.
- Smart features: LiftMaster openers with myQ let you open, close and check the door from your phone. Some include a built-in camera.
- Keypads and extra remotes: handy for kids, guests and anyone who forgets their keys.
We’re LiftMaster Certified and can walk you through which model fits your door and how you use it. See our opener installation page for more.
Small Company, Big on Follow-Through
Rise Up is a family-owned company that Adam Piana started in 2016. He’d spent more than 35 years in home services, including years as a locksmith, and he’d watched his own mother get taken advantage of during a spring replacement. He built the company around doing the opposite.
In practice that means we answer the phone, show up in the window we gave you, and don’t sell you parts you don’t need. New residential torsion springs come with a 12-month warranty, and everything we do is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
“Adam just replaced my almost 20 year old opener and provided excellent service! I have recommended Rise Up to other friends and they have been extremely pleased as well.”

Rise up was quick to respond and prompt with service. From the start Adam was kind, explained everything to me thoroughly, and was upfront about the pricing. I accidentally ran into my garage door and cracked the frame. He reinforced it in less than 30 mins and had it working like it was brand new! I am so thankful to him! They are very affordable as well and I will recommend them to all. Very happy with my service!Posted on Google![]()

I recently had the pleasure of working with Rise Up Garage Doors, and I couldn't be more satisfied with their service and the quality of the motor that was installed. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and efficient. Adam was incredibly responsive, and quick to tend to our issue. He was punctual, professional and well prepared. He assessed the issue with my garage door swiftly and provided a clear explanation of the necessary repairs. We ended up needing a new motor as our was about 20+ years old and in bad shape to where our door wasn't opening any longer. He made sure we were fully informed about the work being done and the costs involved, which were very reasonable. The new motor is wonderful, we can barely hear the door open/close with all the key updates we needed. Overall, I highly recommend Rise Up Garage Doors for anyone in need of garage door services. Their fast, efficient, and professional approach sets them apart from the rest.Posted on Google![]()

We serve all of Matthews, plus our home base in Mint Hill, nearby Indian Trail and Ballantyne, and the greater Charlotte area.

Open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 2. We’re closed Sundays.
The Repair Should Outlast the Visit
We’d rather spend an extra few minutes lubricating and adjusting your door than have you call us back in a month. Small things, done every visit, are why doors we work on keep running quietly.

Matthews Garage Door FAQs
My door starts to close, then goes back up. Why?
Most of the time it’s the safety sensors near the floor. They’re out of line, dirty, or something is in the beam. Wipe the lenses and check that both lights are steady. If that doesn’t fix it, the close force setting or a worn part may be the cause, and we can check it.
Should I lubricate my garage door?
Yes, about twice a year. Use a garage door lubricant on the springs, hinges, roller bearings and opener rail. Skip WD-40, which cleans more than it lubricates, and don’t grease the tracks themselves.
Do you replace rollers?
Yes. Worn metal rollers are one of the most common causes of a loud, shaky door. Quieter nylon rollers with sealed bearings are a popular upgrade.
How long does a garage door opener last?
Most last somewhere around 10 to 15 years, depending on how often the door runs and how well it’s balanced. A door that’s out of balance wears an opener out much faster.
Can I control my garage door from my phone?
Yes, with a myQ-enabled LiftMaster opener. Some models also include a built-in camera so you can see the garage from the app.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes, for new garage doors and openers. We’ll measure, go over your options, and give you a quote.
